Born of the vision of Wisconsin Governor James Doyle, the
Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery is being realized through state funding and the generosity of UW-Madison alumni John and Tashia Morgridge and the
Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF). This $150-million state and private partnership will create two institutes-the private Morgridge Institute for Research and the public Wisconsin Institute for Discovery-located in a single,
state-of-the-art research facility.
The building that will house the twin institutes, scheduled to open in 2010, is being designed to become the vibrant hub of a cross-campus interdisciplinary research program. Located in the heart of the UW-Madison campus, the site is adjacent to the School of Engineering as well as the departmental homes of the university's Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Medical Sciences, Genetics and Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Bacteriology departments.
